Buzz's Original Steak House

Here was a man, his name was Buzz. There was no one greater than him. When it came to serving food, Buzz Schneider was unmatched.

His career began in Waikiki, where he worked as a Maitre D’ at Canlis. Seating guests, spotting ladies, Buzz always had his pick.

Soon he had a big idea: “I want to leave Waikiki, get a loan, and open my own place.”

His first restaurant, featuring steak and lobster with a salad bar, started off successfully. “Come inside and go for broke, enjoy sirloin tip and artichoke,” he promoted.

Catering to stewardesses, Buzz achieved great success. People came to taste the drinks he mixed at Don the Beach and Trader Vic’s.

He soon opened his second location, continuing to rapidly expand his restaurant empire, though it left him quite tired.

Buzz decided he needed a break, quickly saying goodbye to Waikiki and heading to Lanikai. After a few more years of nonstop work, they were back on top. With pride, Buzz declared, “I think I’ll conquer the Windward side.”

Once again, he started expanding, and despite issues with credit, Buzz and Bobby made a great team, gaining momentum quickly.

From beautiful downtown Aiea to the windswept beaches of Wailua, and to Bully Hayes and Kona, there was nothing new for Buzz Schneider.

In a world full of copycats like Chart House, Chuck’s, and more, including Jolly Roger, Victoria Station, and Bobby McGee’s conglomeration, Buzz led the way in creating distinctive restaurant culture.

Rose’s Beach House, Cork and Cleaver, all flaunted their flashy styles, but Buzz was the one who started the trend. When talking about restaurants, this man is truly exceptional.

So, while Mr. Rolls and Mr. Cabell might say “go to hell” to Buzz, amidst the fancy establishments, Buzz’s place still stands as the best.

He is hip, he swings, and he is the king of steak and lobster! Yet, even today, with all his success, people still walk in and ask, “Is this Chuck’s?”
