The first Old Spaghetti Factory opened its doors on January 10, 1969, in the historic Carriage and Baggage Building at 2nd and Pine in Portland, OR. This location served as their Portland home until 1984, when they moved to their current Portland location on the South Waterfront.
The original Old Spaghetti Factory trolley car was discovered in a field near Reed College in Portland, OR. It was refurbished and began being used as a unique dining area at the first location. This trolley car has since become a signature feature across their locations in the U.S. When their flagship restaurant relocated to its current Portland address, the original trolley car moved with them.
The Spaghetti with Mizithra Cheese and Browned Butter is an old Dussin family recipe that almost didn’t make it onto the menu. When Guss Dussin went to apply for his business and liquor license for the first Old Spaghetti Factory, he was informed that he needed to add one more item to the menu to obtain the license. Guss then suggested the beloved Mizithra cheese recipe from his family. Today, it remains the most popular dish on their menu.
Today, the Old Spaghetti Factory family has expanded from Honolulu to Louisville, proudly serving beloved dishes at over 40 locations across 13 states. Since the early 1980s, they have also enjoyed the privilege of working with longstanding Japanese partners to operate two Old Spaghetti Factory restaurants in Nagoya and Kobe, Japan.
