Originally opened in 1989, Paia Fishmarket quickly became a beloved institution in the once-sleepy fishing village of Paia, known for its surfers, windsurfers, local fishermen, and sugar mill workers. Patrons would gather around the family-style seating to enjoy a hearty meal and share stories at a leisurely pace.
In 1994, Moon acquired the Fishmarket and brought on board Yuri, a young surfer with big dreams. Starting as a dishwasher, Yuri worked his way up to become the owner by 2001, and even earned the title of "Biggest Wave" award in 2016! Together, Moon and Yuri form the heart and soul of Paia Fishmarket, prioritizing the use of local produce and offering generous portions at fair prices. Over the decades, they have worked tirelessly to keep Paia Fishmarket at the heart of the town. Each day, the lines stretching out the door are a vibrant mix of local legends and international visitors, taking a break from surfing or exploring Paia’s array of boutiques.
