In 1946, Helen Chock opened a humble eatery called Helena's Hawaiian Food on North King Street in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Over the past 64 years, Helena's Hawaiian Food has been serving the local community with high-quality Hawaiian cuisine. In 2000, the restaurant was honored with the Regional Classic Award from the James Beard Foundation, a prestigious accolade awarded to only a few restaurants in Hawaii. After nearly 55 years of operation, the restaurant relocated to its current location at 1240 N. School Street.
Helena's continues to maintain the simple and unpretentious character it had 60 years ago. The restaurant is now run by Helen’s grandson, Craig Katsuyoshi.
Helena's Hawaiian Food began like many other businesses of its time. Over the years, the founder imparted the values of hard work, perseverance, and passion to her children. This business has become not only a personal legacy but also a family legacy, serving as a vital part of the local culture and helping to bring the community together.
Countless families have gathered at this restaurant to share meals and celebrate the increasingly rare Hawaiian cuisine.
