Karai Crab offers a fresh and enhanced casual seafood dining experience. Originally opened in September 2012 at the former historic location of Willows Restaurant in Makai, Karai Crab—meaning “Spicy Crab”—continues the mission of its legendary sister restaurant: “To share aloha in a special gathering place, creating lasting memories for all.” These memories are sure to include the delicious seafood and unique sauces crafted by Executive Chef Miles Miyamoto.
While other crab restaurants have recently popped up around town, General Manager Garret Kamei had envisioned Karai Crab years earlier after dining at several establishments on the mainland. He wanted to bring this concept to Honolulu and knew that Chef Miyamoto’s creative fusion skills could develop new sauces to elevate Karai Crab to the next level.
Karai Crab was conceived by partners Garret Kamei and Jon Shimotsukasa, inspired by their dining experiences at crab restaurants on the mainland. They sought to bring a similar experience to Honolulu and believed that Chef Miyamoto could create innovative sauces incorporating the unique tastes and flavors of Hawaii, taking Karai Crab to new heights.
Karai Crab is a local-style seafood boil restaurant featuring a fun and spicy menu. It uses locally sourced ingredients whenever possible and is always served with aloha.
